Provided by AGPUN spokesperson Farhan Haq said at a press briefing that the organization welcomed the recent discussions, calling them a positive development aimed at reducing long-standing tensions.
"I can tell you that we welcome yesterday’s meeting between Lebanon and Israel, convened by the United States," Haq said, adding that "the meeting constitutes an important first step to end the hostilities and towards breaking the recurrent rounds of violence that have caused considerable suffering for too long."
He stressed that continued dialogue would be essential for addressing unresolved issues and moving toward lasting stability.
"Maintaining dialogue will be essential in resolving outstanding issues and achieving progress towards stability," he said.
Haq also said the UN is prepared to support diplomatic efforts and reiterated the importance of fully implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
He further addressed concerns over restrictions placed on a UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) convoy traveling from Beirut to its headquarters in Naqoura, saying the incident was part of a broader pattern.
"This is not an isolated incident," he said, noting that similar obstructions have affected peacekeeping operations and support personnel through roadblocks or revoked clearances.
